Marsala
can be found on the west coast of Sicily where the Saltworks and calm reserves are. Its
name, of arabic origin, means "Port of Ali". Marsala rich of evidence in the past that documents all the various
historical stages also has many archeological and historical sites wich are very
interesting and that have been preserved for many years. Just to name a few things that
you can see are: the Saltworks, Erice, Segesta, the natural "Riserva dello
Zingaro", Mothia with its wonderful works of art.
After the distruction of Mothia, Marsala became a powerfull
Carthaginian basis and fell in the hands of Romans only after numerous attackts. For some
time it was the venue of Quaestor and every famous Cicero was a resident here. In may 11th
1860, General Garibaldi landed in Marsala, starting the process of unification of our
peninsula.
Today Marsala is a wonderful town with a lot of cultural
activities. Its economy is based on agricultural production, fishing, hothouse
cultivation, not to mention tourism. Marsala is famous for its wine and the name of
Marsala is known for that reason. This land grows many grapes that produce excellent wine.
